When you let go of something -- let nature handle it -- where do you feel this in your body? I feel it in my shoulders. My shoulders relax. I have let go of a "burden" so to speak. I don't need to carry it around anymore. I don't have to do it all by myself.
I've read a lot about how our bodies mirror our thoughts. I'm sure you have too, or at least have heard about that. The idea is that various parts of our bodies correspond to various emotional and mental "issues." If you've ever had acupuncture, acupressure, deep tissue massage or structural manipulation, and all of a sudden experienced an emotional release, you know what I'm talking about. If you've healed something in your life and had a physical problem heal at the same time, you get the connection.
It makes sense that if you are carrying around a lot of mental and emotional stress, it's going to show up in your body somewhere. More than likely, you're not even aware of the stress you're carrying, and how it's creating blocks in the natural flow of energy in your body. Not aware, that is, until there is a problem. We become insensitive to ourselves. Stress becomes "normal." We forget what health feels like. I've certainly been there.
I've had many experiences along this line. Among other injuries, I've had shoulder injuries, neck tension, and the accompanying poor posture. I've done a lot of healing work around those from every standpoint -- physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. This has taken place over a number of years, and I've seen a lot of improvement. I now get regular body work to keep my body tension-free and aligned.
When I let go of control and surrender to each moment, I feel the release of tension immediately. I know all that other work got me to this point of being able to truly do this. This is a wonderful feedback mechanism, and an incentive to keep letting go. It feels so good. I know, at the depth of my being, that this approach is the way. The way of love.
What has your experience been?
Love,
Andrea

Andrea, I couldn't wait to finish my writing asignment so I could reply to your interesting post this morning! I, too, have been talking to my shoulders lately. I tell them that they are a number, either a zero, or a five or a ten. The higher the number, the more energy I hold in my shoulders and elsewhere. My riding instructor actually taught me this in order to give me some control over my energy, and it works! I can now drop to a zero in an instant, which proved to be helpful in horseback riding, because the horse, like the body, is a mirror of your thoughts/energy. And, it's definitely been helpful in everyday life.
I'm enjoying your blog.

I suffer from TMJ and it is intensified by stress finding its home in my neck. I find stretching, deep breathing and letting my face remain expressionless during my breathing/stretching process helps tremendously. I really like Dee's technique of assigning a number to my muscle energy. I will try that next!
Here's to creating more internal space to fill with goodness! Thank you Andrea.
This is a great post for me today, Andrea. I recently "let go" of something I'd been holding onto. I defintely felt the weightlessness of doing that. There was a more distant time, too, when I was holding onto stress I didn't know I had. It showed up in the way of a skin rash that wouldn't go away underneath my arm. Once I understood where the stress came from, once I became aware of it, and could deal with it appropriately, the rash disappeared, almost overnight. I quickly understood the connection and was amazed at how awareness was key. That's why I am so passionate about my BIKE philosophy. That mind-body connection is so much more powerful than we often realize. But once we do, then we become powerful, too.
Thanks again for your wise words.
Jackie
